What are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about family. Focusing on making memories with our children through adventure and play & allowing our kids to have a wholesome childhood. I am passionate about being present in our children’s lives and raising kids who explore, enjoy & take care of nature.

Do you have any hobbies/things you do in your downtime?
Downtime? There isn’t a lot of that but I love taking photos and at the moment that is my main hobby. I also used to spend a lot of time sewing but I can’t find the time for it at this stage in my life. For fitness I try to get to Boot Camp at least once a week, I will probably start going more often now that Milla is getting older.

How would you describe your family?
We are a very close little family, every free moment is spent together. My husband is my best friend, we both have similar interests & the same values. We like to get outdoors whenever possible with the kids as this is where they are most calm & content. All in all I think we are a pretty happy unit.

How did becoming a mother change you?
It taught me great patience, you need a lot of patience! I have also learnt a lot about myself, am caring less about what people think of me and am confident with in myself and the choices I make for my family. I have become a master at multi-tasking & list making. I enjoy cooking now, oh and I no longer sleep in past 6:30am (not by choice).

What’s the best part about being a mother?
There is so much to love about being a mother but I guess the best part is having your child say they love you or show their appreciation and love towards you.

Naming your children is always so difficult (or maybe it was just me!) Was it easy to pick your child’s name and why did choose it?
We never found out the sex of our children until they were born but with Madden I was so certain I was having a boy. The name was one we had chosen from the start & I couldn’t tell you where we got the name Madden from.
As for the girls, neither of them looked like the names we had chosen. My brother suggested the name Indigo about an hour after she was born and poor Milla went nameless for around 24hours.

Has your personal style changed since becoming mother? If so how?
Very much so! I have become more mindful of consumption and try to live by the saying “Quality over Quantity.” I used to be quite a collector but now I am more about minimalism. I am definitely drawn to more earthy tones and textures with the items I choose. Preferring natural and neutral home decor and clothing.

Is there anything about motherhood that has surprised you?
This is quite a hard question actually. I felt like I have long been prepared for motherhood. I always adored children and worked in the childcare industry since I was 17. Having my own children was a very natural transition for me but I guess the thing that surprised me the most was just how little time you have for yourself. Having a child really is the biggest commitment you can make.

Favourite thing to do as a family?
Making pancakes on a Sunday has become tradition. We love to spend time in the Hinterlands, going on forest walks or to parks and places we have never been before. Our go to place (especially when the kids are driving us mad at home) is the beach. They can run free, be loud, explore, create or swim. The beach will always be our favourite place.

What has been the most memorable moment for you in motherhood so far?
Hands down it would be giving birth to Madden. That was the single most amazing moment of my life. The instant love and bond I felt for him was overwhelming, all of my dreams were fulfilled in that moment.

What are some baby essentials every new mother needs?
I always recommend a baby swing. Ours saved our sanity & all three kids were very content once we put them in it. It allows you to have a break from the constant nursing, you can actually eat a meal!

What are some of your favourite shops/websites for baby wear?
For a new born I love Nature Baby & of course you can’t go wrong with Bonds Zippy suites, they make nappy changing so easy! Now our favourites are Summer & Storm, Millk and Yoli & Otis.

What is the one thing you want to teach your children?
There is so much I want to teach my children but I guess the main thing is kindness.
Not to judge other’s for their differences as you never know what someone has been through or is going through. You don’t have to like everyone but please don’t be cruel.

Have any advice for newly mothers/mothers to be?
All though it may be challenging at times please don’t wish it away. Spend as much time with your children as possible as the days are long but the years are extremely short
