(loveleontine.com) But at the moment I spend my full time with my daughter! Me and my husband shares music as our biggest passion, so every weekend we escape to our little house upstate where we have a music studio! We have a band named America (cometoamercia.com)
New York City
Designer, freelance writer, singer, mom
5 favourite things/items?
My daughter, my husband, my leopard printed coffee cup, a good book and our house upstate in Woodstock NY
What are you most passionate about?
Music, all kinds of creative stimulation and my family and friends!
Do you have any hobbies/things you do in your downtime?
Music has always been the biggest love of my life. Me and my husband have a band ; AMERCIA and whenever we have time we always play or write in our music studio up in Woodstock NY
If I have even more time, I love to read or do a dance or yoga class and sit in the steam sauna afterwards. It makes me a new person! Time for myself is very limited since I became a mom, but its more important than ever and oh so precious!
How would you describe your family?
We are very family oriented both me and my husband. We love to do things together, go out to a club and partying just me and him, our just spend time the three of us with baby Nico Anaïs. Both me and my husband are dreamers and restless and always wanna go for adventures. It feels like we´re always in the planning phase of our next trip.. Sometimes its been crazy cuz its been tough to bring along a baby haha, but most of the things we´ve done has luckily turned out great haha.. We don’t wanna limit ourselves because we have a child!
How did becoming a mother change you?
It changed me completely but it still didn’t change me at all. Im still the same person, just with a child! I still enjoy doing the same things as before, and they are still very important to me. But I am completely and utterly in love with my daughter and she gives me butterflies in my stomach every time she smiles… She is the best thing that has ever happened my life. When you become a mother you become incredibly flexible and I think it´s a very good thing. I was very restless before and I still am, but Nico Anaïs has taught me to stand still in the moment and I haven’t experienced that before in my life. To really live in the presence. Its the hardestt thing, not to think of whats next, bu with her I don’t. Im just there. When we play on the floor, or look at leaves on the trees.. Thats what we do and I´m there with her and its amazing.
Naming your children is always so difficult (or maybe it was just me!) Was it easy to pick your child’s name and why did choose it?
Anaïs is named after my favorite writer; Anaïs Nin. When me and my husband were discussing names, we instantly knew she was gonna be named that. Its such a beautiful, strong, unique and sensual name. It think you owe to your children to give them strong names. They will grow into them and become their names! Nico is from the Velvet Underground singer.. I love how short and unisex it is. Rio was me and my husbands first decision, we decided on that when we were on our first trip years ago when we had first met. (It was in Rio). But when I got pregnant, Nico Anaïs was our decision. We call her Anaïs, but her full name is Nico Anaïs Rio Belle!
Has your personal style changed since becoming mother? If so how?
No it hasn’t at all! I still wear my husbands t-shirts and shirts, jeans and boots and a leatherjacket most of the time:)
Is there anything about motherhood that has surprised you?
I believe that we could not at all understand what sleepless nights actually meant haha… When parents told us about it when I was pregnant, we thought we understood! But dear god. To be up all night for 11 moths, it is truly a cold shower kind of surprise haha…
Favourite thing to do as a family?
Just hang out together. Be in the music studio, or go for a long breakfast upstate to our favorite cafe in the morning on a saturday!
What has been the most memorable moment for you in motherhood so far?
That is such a difficult question… But I believe when Anaïs smiled for the first time. I started to cry, and when she did the same to my hardcore husband he started to cry to! haha..
What are some baby essentials every new mother needs?
I never got into these practical mama t-shirts or sweaters that the industry is trying to sell on you. I used shirts basically the whole time because its easy, practical and it looks good! A true essential purchase for me was eco cotton nursing pads. They are amazing.. I bought so many so I would never be out when they were in the laundry. Skip the horrible one time plastic/paper ones! Another essential was a post partum waist belt. It was extremely comfortable after my delivery to hold everything in, and it is also very good for your body and skin. Last but not least I recommend to get a crib that you can rock. It s everything.
What are some of your favourite shops/websites for baby wear?
Smallable.com has the absolute best of everything from toys to clothes to interior. Beautiful selection! And my favorite brand for Anaïs is the australian label Featherdrum. (featherdrum.com) ! A brand for the dreamers! When she was a newborn I just put organic superset cotton on her, both swaddles, blanket and onesies. No wool or alpacka even if she was born in the coldest and snowiest month of the year. I would never put on itchy and irritable materials on her:)
What is the one thing you want to teach your children?
Oh my.I get to mention only one thing? I want my children to to know that they, as much as anyone else, has the right to be here. They should always stand up for themselves, be kind and and giving but never take shit from anyone.
Have any advice for newly mothers/mothers to be?
You want to learn and read so much so that you are really prepared before, but I would just say that if possible in any way, try to relax. Make sure you get time for yourself, especially in the beginning when everything is overwhelming. Get your partner, a friend a family member take care of your baby so you can have a bath with lavender oil and lit candles for an hour, or a walk outside, alone. It is also very important that you can trust someone else to handle the baby, both for the baby but mostly yourself.
