Murray, Angela & Max (13 months)
We are a very close family who love being with each other. After Murray and I met we knew within a month that the connection we had was very special. Within 4 1/2 months Murray popped the question whilst on holidays in Bali – and within a year we were tying the knot… We are best friends and just “get” each other. Sometimes I think Murray knows me better than I know myself. After our wedding we had a delayed honeymoon, and Max was conceived in NYC (our favourite city). He came into our lives 13 months ago. We have done everything quickly – but it was more of a natural progression, and as they say when you know you know! Max has made our lives even better – we both love being parents and have enjoyed every part of the journey so far. I am fortunate to have such a supportive and hands on husband, and Murray makes sure he is home before Max’s bedtime each night to enjoy some cuddles and play time. Max absolutely adores his Dad and it is very sweet seeing him latch onto Daddy when he arrives home and on the weekends he is like Daddy’s shadow. We feel very blessed to have Max in our lives, and treasure our family time.
We currently live in Sydney. We moved here from Brisbane recently for my husbands work, and are loving life in our new city!
Occupation? My current job is – Mother. Previously I have worked in Sales & Marketing, however I am absolutely loving my new role, and at this stage have no plans to return to work. I feel like I have really found myself being a mother, and am privileged to me able to spend so much time with Max. To fill the work void, I started an Instagram account, Life Style Diaries when Max was 6 months old, sharing my all I love in the lifestyle, baby and fashion world. I have always had a creative flair and I am a visual person, so Instagram is a great means for me to put this to use. I love trawling through Pinterest, design books, interior and fashion mags and dreaming a little. It’s early days, but eventually I would like this to evolve into something more that I can do from home. Murray was a Lawyer, however has recently had a career change and following his passion to be a Property Developer.
5 favourite things/items?1. My engagement / wedding ring – it’s a unique piece handmade by a jeweller in Sydney and has an antique look to it. Such great memories attached to this ring.2. My Panama Hat – the accessory I never leave the house without. Max and I walk a lot during the day, and this will always come with me.3. My Maya Brenner “M” for Max rose gold necklace. This was my first Mother’s Day present, and very rarely comes off. It’s a fine necklace that is light enough to be worn every day. Very special4. My Longchamp pliage bag – the perfect nappy bag in my eyes as it’s very light, spillages can just be wiped off and it goes with everything5. Last but not least…. Coffee!! It’s a daily ritual and something I cannot live without. Whenever we travel I spend time beforehand researching the best coffee spots!!
What are you most passionate about? My family and friends
Do you have any hobbies/things you do in your downtime?
I like to go to the gym, and have found a fabulous one in our area with a excellent creche. I am forced to go almost everyday now, as Max really enjoys his time there and the socialisation. Even on the days when it’s the last thing I want to do, I have to go for Max! As mentioned previously I spend quite a bit of time on Instagram now, however, I always make sure this is when Max is having his daytime naps or after he has gone to bed. I am just a little obsessed with all things lifestyle, baby and fashion and love spending my downtime doing this.
How would you describe your family?Happy, down to earth and close.
How did becoming a mother change you?Motherhood has changed me immensely. You live life with a different purpose and you appreciate the small things more. I have become a more relaxed person, and although I struggled to start with I have been able to accept that not everything will be perfect and go as you had planned. I have learnt to expect the unexpected and not to sweat the small stuff
What’s the best part about being a mother?Watching Max smile at me, and seeing how much he loves his Mummy and Daddy. It’s very special watching this life and personality develop over time and blossom from a baby to a toddler. I am looking forward to all that is still to come.
Naming your children is always so difficult (or maybe it was just me!) Was it easy to pick your child’s name and why did choose it?Max is a name we have both always loved, so we didn’t even have a back up name.
Has your personal style changed since becoming mother? If so how?I definitely dress more casually now, and heels are very rarely worn. I tend to wear more basics and live in my denim jeans, boyfriend shirts and wedge sneakers. I don’t think my style has changed since becoming a mum though, I am just more practical. I still do love getting dressed up and love the opportunity to!
Favourite thing to do as a family? Our favourite thing to do as a family is just to be together. We also love to travel, and when Max was 6 months old we took him on an overseas holiday to Europe for a month! Some say we were crazy travelling with a baby, but as long as you are organised it really not that bad. We had a fantastic holiday with Max and it’s a trip I will never forget. For our next holiday we plan to visit Fiji.
What has been the most memorable moment for you in motherhood so far? There have been many, but one of the ones that really stands out is the first moment I saw Max’s heart beating at my Obstetrician appointment. This is when it really hit home that I had a life growing inside me, and I remember bursting into tears in awe of the miracle of life. Seeing Max for the first time was also an amazing memory, and the skin to skin time we had together that morning of his birth was very special.
What are some baby essentials every new mother needs?A good pram – we love, our Bugaboo Cameleon, Longchamp nappy bag, Baby Bjorn bouncer, and lots of nappies!!! Oh, and how can I forget… Coffee!!
What are some of your favourite shops/websites for baby wear?www.alexaandalexa.com ; Target Australia, Seed & Country Road Baby
What is the one thing you want to teach your children? To follow their passion and to be a good person.
Have any advice for newly mothers/mothers to be?My advice is to follow your instincts, and to not get too caught up in reading every book on the shelf before your baby arrives. I think we can get bogged down and overwhelmed by all the modern day advice. Trust your instincts and don’t doubt yourself. The first few months are tough, and I found getting out everyday for a walk or coffee really helped me. Fresh air can do wonders, and contact with other adults is important too. I am not to sure about Mothers groups – I never joined one, as I found I had enough friends and family around me who had children themselves and I could lean on them. On one occasion I did go along to a group, however, I felt it was too competitive and negative and wasn’t for me. It’s all about doing whatever works for you and your baby.
