What are you most passionate about? The men in my life (Valentine and Cary)
Making a difference in the world through The Mother Loving Future and coaching.
Mindful parenting and the impact this can have on the future of our planet and society.
Using food as medicine. Traveling.
Do you have any hobbies/things you do in your downtime? Discovering new places, yoga, hiking, visiting our family farm.
How would you describe your family FUN, easy going, loving, very social, nature lovers, jokers, travelers, obsessed with each other.
How did becoming a mother change you? I have become the worlds best multi-tasker.
It opened my heart bigger than I thought possible and forced me to become a professional time manager.
On a deeper level, motherhood has been very expansive for me.. everything has become MORE and BIGGER. I am forced to practice more presence, patience, love, service, the only thing I seem to have less of is time and SLEEP and balance!
What’s the best part about being a mother ? How much I get to play, laugh, kiss and cuddle.
Teaching V the ways of the world and holding myself accountable for being the best example of a human I can possibly be- Being forced to grow and practice mindfulness on the daily.
Having my heart blasted open. Being such a close witness to the beauty of untainted, unconditional love and light the babies represent, call it source energy if you will.
Naming your children is always so difficult (or maybe it was just me!) Was it easy to pick your child’s name and why did choose it? Some guidelines we had when looking at names were..
Originality (not have a name that is “in”),
A girls name for a boy (and boys name if we were having a girl- weird I know)
Meaning in a m=name and connection to our family
And most importantly, a name that deeply resonated with the essence of my child.
We had a couple of names in the hat and then waited until he was born to be able see which suited him best.
The moment we looked V in the eyes for the first time there was no other name for him but Valentine. He is such a sweet and loving soul that “Valentine” is a perfect match for him.
Cary happens to be born on Valentines day so thats a cute connection to the name but not the reason we chose it. Our family motto is “Be Love”, most of the men in our family and community have this tattooed on them as a reminder that love is the answer to freedom as well as a prosperous, happy and healthy life. So it seemed fitting to have “Valentine” on our list (the name originated from Saint Valentine who was a true representative of love)
Has your personal style changed since becoming mother? If so how? My style is always changing as I move into different parts of myself that I feel are begging to be expressed. Some weeks I am all about comfort and other weeks I feel the need to get in touch with my “edge” while other weeks I want to feel more feminine.
The biggest change would be that COMFORT is the main driver of my wardrobe choices these days. Especially back in the nursing days. Converse, Jeans and a cotton vintage T have become my uniform for the most part, allowing me to end up with food, play-dough and and paint all over me without a care.
Is there anything about motherhood that has surprised you? How much it effects every facet of my life… I released a podcast this week on my journey from “Maiden to Mother” and all the changes (invisIble and finite) that I endured.
Some of the main surprises were how little I get to sleep these days and how much I have to schedule everything into my life (so opposite to my usual spontaneous nature).
Favorite thing to do as a family? Explore new territory, weather that is a new restaurant in town, art exhibition or a weekend getaway. We love mornings on the weekend where we all get to laze around in bed together or pump the music and make pancakes. Our family farm is also a favorite spot for us, it is an organic farm in Northern Cali (BeLove Farm)where we get to collect eggs for breakfast, ride tractors, milk the cows, make raw ice cream, organic wine, raw cheese and harvest fruits and veggies. We sleep in a trailer out in the orchards and get to be the elements and wake up to a rooster crowing on our door step. I love watching my boy drop in to nature, gain confidence with such wild surroundings and learn about where his food comes from.
What has been the most memorable moment for you in motherhood so far? In the first few weeks/months of motherhood I remember being SO exhausted yet unable to shut my eyes incase in fear of missing the sight of one breath escape Valentines lips. I also remember waking up in the early morning after feeding through the night (we co-slept for a year and a half) and looking at Valentine and noticing how he had grown over night and was noticeably different and bigger!! Having a child is an AAZING way to experiencing time as a tangible entity.
What are some baby essentials every new mother needs? I actually needed way less than I thought. My philosophy is “less is more”..
But some essentials included:
A great baby carrier,
A stroller you love
Organic/natural toys/clothes/bath items etc.
What are some of your favorite shops/websites for baby wear? My go to is baby bonds and baby Zara now that V is a toddler.
Some organic brands I used when he was smaller were Under the Nile, Color organics and Mini Mioche.
I also love second hand clothing shops for original baby clothes and it feels good to be supporting recycled practices (better for our environment!!!)
What is the one thing you want to teach your children? You are the creator of your own experience and living in the heart will be your ticket to a great life.
Have any advice for newly mothers/mothers to be? SLEEP when you can!!
Everything is a phase and will pass so don’t get attached to things being one way or another. Stay light!
